WellCoug Wellness Program garners state recognition

For the second year in a row, Human Resource Services’ WellCoug Wellness Program has received the Zo8 Award from the Washington State Healthcare Authority.

Every year, the state’s healthcare authority honors employers who make significant efforts to improve the health and wellbeing of their employees with Zo8 Awards. A complete list of winners as well as more information about the award is available on the healthcare authority website.

WellCoug supports the health and wellness efforts of employees across the WSU system by offering programs and resources. The program made significant strides in the past year, including re-establishing and seating the WellCoug Champions Network with system-wide representatives and designating a more concentrated FTE for a wellness coordinator, who earned the Certified Wellness Practitioner designation through the National Wellness Institute. The program also nearly doubled the number of workplace wellness training presentations, increasing attendance from 261 to 510 over a one-year period.

Among WellCoug’s core programs are the Washington State Employee Assistance Program — a no-cost confidential counseling, support, and referral service — and SmartHealth, which gives employees interactive tools to enhance efforts to bolster their health and wellness while also earning a wellness incentive to be used with their WSU medical insurance plan.
