WSU’s online learning platform, Percipio, is available for individuals holding an active paid appointment with the university. Your level of access is based on your employee type and is automatically managed through Workday.
Eligibility
All WSU employees holding an active paid appointment have access to the Percipio Compliance Library, in addition to our WSU-developed courses and live, instructor-led training opportunities.
Some employees receive enhanced access to the full Percipio library, which includes tools and resources to support professional growth and career development.

Students and Volunteers
Volunteers and students do not have access to Percipio, but may work with area subject matter experts to identify alternative training and learning opportunities.
Training for these groups is typically provided through alternative sources, such as the WSU department, unit, school, or college that manages or delivers the content.
Examples include:
- Environmental Health & Safety (Safety and Lab training)
- Compliance & Civil Rights (Ethics, harassment, misconduct)
- Center for Community Standards (Hazing prevention)
- Office of Information Security and Assurance (Cybersecurity)
Returning Employees
Employees who are returning to WSU can expect access to Percipio the business day following the completion of all Workday hiring actions.
The training content available to you is based on your current Workday employee type, not on previous roles or past access. Once your Workday record is fully processed, Percipio will align your access and assignments accordingly.
Expected Access Timeline
Access to Percipio is managed through Workday and is available the day after the employee’s hire or rehire date.
If access doesn’t appear the day after the hire date, it may be due to pending hiring actions such as Form I-9 completion.
Training Time & the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
Training time may or may not be considered paid work time, so when you complete your training matters.
Under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), training time is not required to be paid unless all four of the following conditions listed below are met:
- Attendance happens outside of your regular working hours, and
- Participation is voluntary, and
- The training is not directly related to your current job role and responsibilities, and
- No productive work is performed during the training.
If any one of these conditions are not met, the training time must be treated as work time. This means that the time must be paid and counted toward total hours worked, including overtime where applicable.
A Few Important Clarifications
- If training is required, it is not considered voluntary.
- If an employee believes they could face negative consequences for not attending, participation may still be considered not voluntary, even if it is described as otherwise.
- Training that helps you perform your current job more effectively is generally considered directly related to your job, while training that prepares you for a new role or skill may not be considered directly related.
Employees should not complete orientation or onboarding activities until they are officially employed by Washington State University.
