Announcing our new HRS website: built with you in mind

Lots of brightly colored balloons hanging in the air in a bunch, with their strings hanging down.

We’re excited to share the launch of our new HRS website, a project shaped by collaboration across all HRS units. Over the last few months, your HRS teams have been reviewing content, gathering feedback, and reworking more than 400 pages to make the site easier to use and more helpful in your day-to-day work. It’s been a true team effort, and we’re grateful for everyone who contributed their time and expertise.

Guided by the question, ‘How can we help?’ our new website reflects HRS’s commitment to serving the WSU community through clear communication, accessible resources, and a focus on user needs.

Phase one of our changes concentrated on enhancing and streamlining existing content while looking ahead, phase two will introduce new tools and information the university needs, such as an interactive decision-tree for Medical Leave and Accommodation, to make navigating HR processes easier and more intuitive.

What’s new and improved

You’ll notice several improvements right away:

  • Pages that are easier to read and navigate
  • Clearer pathways to the information you need
  • Removal of outdated pages and information
  • Expanded employee training resources
  • A new Personnel Admins section designed specifically to support your work
  • A table of contents on longer pages to help you jump quickly to key information (like the one you see below!)

Highlights from Phase One

Pages that are easier to read

We’ve added clearer visual breaks, improved consistency across content, and begun updating complex data tables so information is easier to follow and understand.

Navigation that helps you find what you need faster

The site now offers several ways to move through the content more intuitively:

Horizontal Navigation

Quickly jump to high-traffic areas like the Employee homepage, Benefits, and Holiday Schedule.

Sidebar Navigation

On content pages the navigation is on the left and only shows the pages relevant to the section you’re in. For example, it only lists the training pages when you’re in the Training section.

For news posts, tags and other important links are on the right.

Sub Page Navigation

A Quick Links collapsible menu at the bottom of many pages helps you move through larger sections, such as Retirement resources or the Faculty and AP Retirement Information page.

Table of Contents

Longer pages now include a collapsible table of contents to help you jump directly to the information you need, like the Pregnancy and Parental Resources page.

Site Map

The link to the full Site Index is available in the footer at the bottom of every page. The site map contains categorized lists of every page on the site.

New Personnel Admins landing page

We’ve created a dedicated landing page for Personnel Admins with resources tailored to the work they do. This section will continue to grow as we move through future update phases.

Centralized announcements

Important updates, such as staffing blackout dates, open enrollment, or system outages, now live on the HRS Announcements page. There is easy access from either the home page or the horizontal (top) navigation bar.

Significant updates to the Training section

The Training section received some of our most meaningful improvements. We’ve added clearer explanations about why certain trainings are assigned, expanded support for Learning Administrators, and strengthened our professional development resources. You’ll also find more guidance on creating learning plans and opportunities to grow your knowledge and skills. Our goal is to make training feel more helpful, more accessible, and more connected to your work.

What’s coming next

Phase one focused on improving existing content. Phase two will introduce new pages and functionality, including the Medical Leave and Accommodation interactive decision-tree. We’ll also clean up any inconsistencies or broken links we may have missed. Even with several rounds of testing, things slip through, and we appreciate your patience as we continue refining the site.
