Tammy Crawford is an Assistant Professor (Career Track) in the College of Education’s Sport Management program which confers bachelor and master’s degrees on the Pullman campus. Prior to her career in academia, Crawford was the Head Women’s Rowing Coach at WSU from 1990-2002, where she transitioned the WSU rowing team from “club” status to “intercollegiate-varsity” status and built the program to national prominence leading the Cougars to five Pac-10 Championships and a national title in 1995. In 2001, she was named the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) West Region Coach of the Year. Crawford earned her Master of Arts in Education with a concentration in Athletic Administration from WSU in 2004, and received her doctoral degree in Higher Education Administration from WSU in 2007.
Dr. Crawford served on the Faculty Senate from 2012-2018 and was the Sport Management Program Coordinator from 2014-2017. She teaches as many as ten courses per year on both the graduate-level and undergraduate level. As part of the Sport Management graduate faculty she has been a member of 69 comprehensive exam committees for master’s students, chaired 24 of those committees, has been a member of eight MA thesis committees, and co-advised five of them. She chaired three of five undergraduate honors thesis committees, and two theses were designated pass with distinction.
Dr. Crawford currently serves on the Committee for University Common Requirements and recently completed the Academic Outreach and Innovation – Distance Delivery Mastery Certificate. She created and coordinates the WSU Sport Management “Careers in Sport Fair” which includes panelists from professional, collegiate, high school, non-profit, and community sport organizations. Dr. Crawford was a nominee for the 2009 WSU Outstanding Mentor Award, honorable mention for the WSU Distinguished Teaching Award for non-tenure-track faculty, and received the 2020 College of Education Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award.
