Only Washington State University officials holding appointing authority, as delegated by the President, may authorize employment actions.
Appointing Authority at Washington State University
An Appointing Authority is lawfully authorized by the university President to appoint, transfer, layoff, reduce, dismiss, suspend or demote employees.
This role supports HR actions that route through Workday’s Supervisory Organizations such as:
- Creation of new positions
- Hiring
- Appointment of temporary faculty and administrative professionals
- Layoffs, non-reappointments, changes to FTE, or appointment discontinuation
- Employee reassignments
- Modifying or withdrawing disciplinary actions
- Employment terminations
