WSU/UAW Negotiations 12/15/23
WSU package proposal provides a minimum salary step of nearly 25% above current salary minimums.
After significant consideration, WSU provided a package proposal in which if accepted by the UAW as proposed and in it’s entirely, provided the greater of a minimum wage step for ASEs on assistantships or 5% on April 1, 2024:
Monthly minimum salary $2,227
Academic Year minimum (9month) $20,047
Additional compensation based on an ASE on assistantships work location of up to 20% above Pullman minimum salary at WSU Vancouver.
Progressive salary step increases based on education to begin August 16, 2024
Admitted to PhD: 6% increase over minimum
PhD Candidate: 6% over Admitted to PhD
In addition WSU proposed a 3% MSI in the second year of the Contract
In addition to the healthy Wages proposal WSU’s proposal included acceptance of a new Child and Dependent Care Subsidy Program which would allow an eligible ASE to apply for financial assistance of up to $2,025 for fall and spring and $1,550 for summer terms for eligible expenses.
The package if accepted in its entirety would resolve all outstanding articles while maintaining the parties’ agreement to continue health insurance plan discussions once WSU receives carries response to WSU’s annual requests for proposal.
WSU and the UAW reviewed and discussed individual proposals passed electronically on December 14 including Anti-Discrimination and Harassment, Health Insurance, Parking and Transportation, Professional Development and Career Counseling.
The parties agreed to a tentative agreement on the Professional Development and Career Counseling Article.
UAW provided closing remarks to the table in which they shared while they appreciated WSU’s prior movement in wages, it was not enough and they required a $2,400 base salary.
After WSU provided a summary of it’s new wage proposal and a long day at the table, the groups adjourned at 10:15 pm.
