We are excited to announce Kelly McGovern with the Office of Graduate Studies as one of our 2022 Crimson Spirit Award winners!

Kelly has worked as the Director of the Office of Gradate Education since 2015. Her nominator says that, “She stood out,” and “Had the greatest vision for how our graduate office could operate, even before knowing the details of the office.” Since then, Kelly has been known for creating a well-organized, inclusive, and supportive environment for those who work with her.

In addition to staff who report to her directly, Kelly has worked very closely with her colleagues in Tri-Cities, Spokane, and Vancouver. One of the department chairs, who is on the Vancouver campus, stated that:

Kelly excels at communicating with students. She carefully and thoughtfully guides students through all the paperwork needed to successfully navigate their progression toward degree. Her ability to explain (often more than once) deadlines, requirements, and policies is appreciated by students and many report that “Kelly saved them.” Her efforts go well beyond simply providing information. She works with students so that they know what is required, when it is required, and how they should complete what is needed. She will spend time with students, over the phone, in person, or via zoom to make sure that they understand.

Kelly’s nominator says multiple times throughout the submission that she surpasses expectations and is very passionate about her work. It is mentioned that recently, due to unforeseen circumstances, Kelly is now the only one in her office and is responsible for all of the graduate programs and their students. Kelly “has already re-organized her work to accommodate this extra responsibility but more importantly she has approached it with a “can do” and positive attitude.” Her nominator finishes by saying, “Her work ethic and commitment to her job and the success of the college is unbelievable. If anyone deserves this recognition, she most definitely does.”
