Advisor training and professional development are integral pieces of one’s job. They provide consistency and accuracy across units, motivation to develop and grow within one’s profession, and a desire to remain within the WSU system. All advisors are required to complete the Foundations of Advising training upon hire. Once completed, advisors work towards Level II certification. There will also be required refresher modules for all advisors. More information on this can be found at

Foundations of Academic Advising: Part 2

This course further explores the foundations of advising and expands upon the knowledge gained through Foundations of Academic Advising Part 1. It provides participants with opportunities, through case studies and interactive activities, to build upon their knowledge of how to communicate effectively with students in an advising session. Participants also learn about the variety of resources available for students in order to make effective referrals.
