Matthew Kirby, food service supervisor 1, WSU Vancouver, received 2020 Crimson Spirit Recognition.

Mr. Kirby’s nominator says “As I was walking out of the cafe today, I caught a random act of kindness on behalf of our staff. Matt Kirby, Food Services Supervisor, was helping Abby, a blind student to the drinking fountain. Their conversation was priceless but his act of kindness and thoughtfulness was inspiring.” When the nominator commented on this to a WSU student, she was told “He is so nice. He is always bringing [Abby] food, and on multiple occasions, I have seen him walk her out to the bus she takes to/from campus.”

A deeply impressed WSU staff member told the nominator that Mr. Kirby “goes above and beyond his job for many people on a daily basis, and makes visiting the cafeteria a sunny part of the day. While I was pregnant, he would offer to make me custom lunches depending on what I was craving, sheesh!”

It’s clear! Mr. Kirby exceeds expectations, always make an extra effort, and is inspiringly kind. He is recognized for his deep commitment to the WSU community; for anticipating needs; and for taking appropriate action.
