Understanding Benefit Implications During Times of Change

As our campus community navigates organizational changes, some employees may experience impacts such as reduced FTEs, changes in appointment terms, or, in some cases, layoffs or position discontinuations. These decisions are never easy and can bring understandable uncertainty.
If you are affected—or simply want to be informed—it’s important to understand how such changes may impact your benefits.
To support you, Human Resource Services has developed a dedicated resource: the Benefit Implications Due to Change in Appointment website. This site provides guidance on how modifications to your employment status could influence your medical, retirement, and other benefit elections.
We encourage all employees to review this information and reach out with questions. Knowing your options can help you make informed decisions during times of transition.
For additional support, please contact your HR representative or reach out to HRS directly.
Unplug to Recharge: Try a Digital Detox
As the weather warms up, it’s the perfect time to step away from screens and spend more time outdoors. A digital detox—taking a conscious break from phones, tablets, and other devices—can help reduce stress, improve sleep, and boost your overall well-being.
Why try a digital detox?
Constant digital engagement can lead to burnout, anxiety, and mental fatigue. By unplugging—even briefly—you give your mind a chance to reset and recharge. Replacing screen time with real-world activities like walking, gardening, or simply enjoying the fresh air can have a powerful, positive effect.
Simple ways to get started:
- Set screen-free times during your day, like meals or evenings.
- Turn off unnecessary notifications.
- Create tech-free zones at home.
- Replace scrolling with hobbies or outdoor time.
- Start small—15–30 minutes offline is a great first step.
